Waking up and taking action!

Last night I attended an event by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) where Freedom Flotilla leader Huwaida Arraf spoke about the situation in Palestine, her group's response to Israel's injustice toward Palestinians and how the world has reacted to that response. Arraf moved me beyond words because this was a woman who had a dream to make a difference and she went above and beyond to bring it to life. It took many years, even abuse from Israeli soldiers, but people have slowly become aware of her efforts and more and more people are trying to help her with her movement to end injustice towards Palestinians.
I left the conference room renewed and hopeful, most of all determined to help with her cause and pursue my own. Arraf stressed it is not enough to merely dream or discuss, we have to take action in order to realize it. And action I plan to take.

The plan:

1. Write to the Rachel Maddow Show (and other media) to give them a heads up for the upcoming Flotilla in the spring.

2. Donate to the cause.

3. Spread awareness to friends, family and the world wide web! (Check.)

4. Write letters to my government demanding they pressure Israel into changing their policies toward Palestinians and pay for their crimes.

5. Refrain from purchasing Israeli products until Israel complies with the law and Palestinians get the justice they deserve!

6. Become aware of other countries and people in similar need of assistance from the global population.
